Le week-end dernier, je suis allée à Berlin, en Allemagne avec mon amie Susan.
(Last weekend, I went to Berlin, Germany with my friend Susan. I wrote this sentence about 10 times this past week because we're learning past tense and had to recount our weekend about 10 times...over and over and over and over again...)
Susan Jihae Kim graciously asked me to come with her to stay with her family friends who are missionaries in Berlin. Her father met the father of the Borchmanns at seminary school in the states and they've been friends since! Cool beans! They were such a nice family with such a great house and great hearts! I felt so warm and cozy and I'm forever thankful to them and Susan for letting me stay with! Go Borchmanns!

Friday, started off with a warm, hearty breakfast. I only chose to eat bread and drink tea but the whole setting was just so nice. It was cozy and candlelit and it's totally how I want to have breakfast with my family every morning! That day, Suz and I went to the Jewish Museum, Checkpoint Charlie, and the TV Towers. We also discovered this little fair going on that sold lots of things like chocolate-covered everything, candied nuts, sausages, and bracelets. We also had "Currywurst" which is straight up sausage with curry powder on top and a bread. Simple but gewd.
Saturday, had another yummy breakfast and we were off to explore the rest of Berlin! Hanna, the 2nd oldest daughter of the family, took us around and definitely helped us find our way faster. This day included: The Brandenburg Gate, The Parliament/The Dome, The Berlin Wall, A Prison Cell from when the Soviets took over, and Galleries LaFayette.

Overall, Germany was a very good experience. We learned lots and lots about Berlin history - the split between the East/West, the Soviets, Checkpoint Charlie...and more. Most Germans spoke English so it was really easy to get around. And also, we noticed that Berliners don't dress the those in Paris do. I might sound really snobby for saying this, but it was really refreshing to go back to Paris and see everyone's styles. It's not that the Germans' styles were bad, it's just that the Parisians efforts in dressing up is just so on point and so inspiring. Just saying. It was also very, very cold the whole time. How will I ever survive this winter?! Woe is me...
Next up: Spain and Portugal for our Fall Break! Which will kick off our "traveling-every-weekend-in-November" madness. Hurrah.
PS: I can't get my pictures to upload ): Maybe tomorrow? Or just check FB! Duh!
